About Tucked In VT

I have built this company by doing things I have a passion for. After moving to Vermont following 20 years of garden design and installation in suburban New York, I led the renovation and design of my new home and cottage in Manchester Center and learned a lot along the way. I gained immense insight into the construction and design systems in southern Vermont, and with this knowledge, I built relationships with local businesses and subcontractors and developed a community I trusted. I knew this process was something I could help others with, especially those who were making the move north like I did, or who were working on a home without knowledge of either the area or the industry.

I wanted to provide guidance and share the expertise I had gained both in my time in Vermont, and in my landscape design business the previous 20 years, so I launched Tucked In, LLC! I work in partnership with each client to make sure their objectives are met on a timeline and budget that they’re comfortable with, while taking the stress out of the process and logistics to realize their project goals.

Joan Burns

I am a good balance of creative, strong, and independent. I found my muse in landscape architecture while I lived in New York.

Moving to Vermont almost 8 years ago was the start of a new, exciting chapter for me. Five things I couldn’t live without are: my clippers for gardening (I like to get dirt under my fingernails), my 1998 dodge pickup truck, Betty, from my landscaping days, my phone (I’m unabashedly addicted), my three daughters, two granddaughters who live in three different cities, and my friends who live near and far and provide me with all the love and support a girl could ever need.

I’ve always been a hostess at heart.  Before landscaping I was in the hospitality business, and it’s something that comes effortlessly to me. My style of traveling is to live and explore new places in the most authentic way possible. That’s exactly how I hope my guests experience my cottage and my house.

My life motto is to enjoy the little things and live life for your own self. Be unapologetically happy.
